Moving from Groove.cm to Scale.gg
I run Club Room Access, a directory of 2,500+ hotels with club lounges, on GroovePages. I build my new sites on Scale.gg SiteBuilder. So I'm making this move myself. Here's what's official, what isn't yet, and the checklist I'm using.
What's changing (from the official notice at groove.cm)
- Groove.cm is becoming Scale.gg. Groove calls it "a careful, phased transition", "not overnight".
- New Groove enrollment is closed. Groove no longer accepts new customer registrations.
- From my experience as a Groove member: Groove won't open new accounts in any of its apps, including GrooveSell, GrooveMember, GrooveKart and GrooveMail. Only existing accounts are supported. Anything new has to be built in the Scale.gg apps.
- Existing members keep access during the transition. You can keep logging in and using your Groove tools, including GroovePages, GrooveSell, GrooveMail and GrooveKart.
- Not stated (unverified): a timeline or end date for Groove access, and whether existing Groove plans carry over to Scale.gg. Check the official update at groove.cm or ask support.scale.gg before you plan around a date.
GroovePages vs Scale.gg SiteBuilder/PageBuilder
- GroovePages is the drag-and-drop builder your current Groove sites run on.
- Scale.gg's PageBuilder/SiteBuilder is an AI builder. You describe changes in chat or edit visually, and it builds whole sites, pages and funnels. Each site gets a pagebuilder.gg address or a domain you connect. Scale.gg lists a sitemap among the site features. (Source: scale.gg/pagebuilder)
- Official import from GroovePages: pick a GroovePages site, then tick the pages or whole funnel folders you want. Scale.gg says they "arrive looking the same", lighter, with their images copied over. You can also clone any page from its web address. (Source: scale.gg/pagebuilder)
My step-by-step checklist
- Build anything new on Scale.gg: you can't open new Groove app accounts (GrooveSell, GrooveMember, GrooveKart, GrooveMail and so on), so start every new site, list, store or funnel in the Scale.gg apps. Keep your existing Groove accounts running while you move.
- Inventory: list every Groove site, page, funnel, blog, form, checkout, email list and automation you use. Note each live URL and domain.
- Export what you can: download your email lists as CSV from GrooveMail, plus any product, order and affiliate data you need. (Exact Groove export options aren't covered in the notice, so check inside your account.)
- Import pages: in Scale.gg, use the GroovePages import for the site or funnel folders. For anything else, clone the page from its URL.
- Rebuild and tidy: check each imported page, fix broken embeds and scripts, and remove old test pages. Custom HTML boxes need a careful look, because code can behave differently once it's moved.
- Email lists: bring contacts into MailBaser with its CSV import wizard (source: scale.gg/mailbaser). Then rebuild sequences and automations, and only import contacts who opted in.
- Checkout and affiliates: existing GrooveSell sales can keep running for now, but new products and offers go on Scale.gg checkout. (How existing GrooveSell products and affiliates carry over is unverified.)
- Domains: connect your domain to the new site only once the pages are ready. Keep a note of your current DNS settings so you can roll back.
- Redirects and links: keep the same page URLs where you can. Where a URL changes, update internal links and set up redirects. (Redirect options in SiteBuilder: check with support.)
- Test: check every page on mobile and desktop, plus forms, checkout, tracking and email opt-ins, before and after the domain switch.
- Sitemap and search: submit the new site's sitemap to Google Search Console. On GroovePages I couldn't update the root sitemap.xml myself, so I built a /site-map page as a workaround.
Unverified points (ask support.scale.gg)
- Transition timeline and any end date for Groove access.
- Whether Groove plans, pricing or lifetime deals carry over to Scale.gg.
- Groove data export formats, and how existing GrooveSell, GrooveMember, GrooveKart, GrooveMail and affiliate data move. (No new Groove app accounts is confirmed from my own experience as a member.)
- Redirect tools in SiteBuilder.
